Trainee Counsellor · Working under supervision
Hi, I’m Tanisha!
I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology at CHRIST University, Bengaluru. I’ve always been curious about people, their stories, and the little things that make us who we are. I think there is so much more to a person than what we see on the surface, and I love getting to understand those parts of people that they may not always get the chance to share.
What counselling with me looks like
As a trainee counsellor, I know that talking about what’s going on inside your head isn’t always easy. Sometimes you know exactly what’s bothering you, and sometimes you just know that something doesn’t feel right. Sometimes you want to talk, and other times, finding the words feels difficult. I believe there should be room for all of that in counselling. You don’t have to have the right words, a clear explanation, or everything figured out before you come in.
I see counselling as a space where we can slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and explore things together, without the pressure of having to fix everything straight away. I may not always have an answer for you, but I will do my best to listen with curiosity, understand your experience, and meet you where you are. I hope you feel that you can show up as yourself here, even on the days when you don’t quite feel like yourself.
My approach
My approach to counselling is eclectic, with a person-centred and cognitive foundation, and a trauma-informed perspective. I’m drawn to narrative therapy because I believe there is so much more to a person than the stories they have come to believe about themselves. I also recognise how our experiences and circumstances shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us. I’m continuing to learn about Cognitive Analytic Therapy and mindfulness-based counselling interventions, and I hope to keep growing in my understanding of what might be helpful for each person. At the heart of it all, I believe therapy is something we work through together, with understanding, curiosity, and room to explore things at your own pace.
Outside of psychology
I’m someone who really enjoys the little things. I love coffee, dogs, beaches, and being around nature. I enjoy exploring new cafés, finding new places to eat, and, for reasons I can’t fully explain, genuinely enjoy grocery shopping. I’m also someone who can get excited about a good food recommendation or a place I haven’t explored yet.
More than anything, I hope counselling feels like a space where you don’t have to pretend to be okay, have everything under control, or be a particular version of yourself. You can come as you are, and we can take it from there.
I look forward to getting to know you, not just the things that bring you to counselling, but you as a person, too.
